From 18 to 22 March, the Croatian capital will once again become a stage of light, art and innovation. Organised by the Zagreb Tourist Board in cooperation with partners and with the support of the City of Zagreb, the eighth edition of the Festival of Lights Zagreb will take place, an event that has already become an established part of the city’s cultural and tourism offer and a true herald of spring.

Forbes recognition and international quality

The festival’s world-class profile is further confirmed by its inclusion on Forbes’ list of the best European events to visit in 2026. Since its first edition in 2017, the Festival of Lights Zagreb has been part of the international Festival of Lights International network, placing Zagreb in the spotlight alongside cities such as Berlin and New York.

The eighth edition of the festival reflects the continued growth and international recognition of the project“, said Martina Bienenfeld, Director of the Zagreb Tourist Board, adding that visitors this year can enjoy as many as 26 installations across 21 locations. A major boost to the festival’s development comes from renewed interest among international artists, with ten installations created in collaboration with authors from five countries: the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Slovakia and Spain.

A blend of technology, culture and environmental awareness

Beyond its strong visual appeal, the festival also carries important messages. The successful cooperation with WWF Adria continues, and this year’s installation at Gradec Plateau is dedicated to the sea. Through 3D mapping, it highlights the impact of climate change and plastic pollution on marine ecosystems, linking art with pressing environmental issues.

The Mayor of Zagreb, Tomislav Tomašević, emphasised that the event creates a distinctive atmosphere through the meeting of old and new: „Streets, promenades, squares, facades and parks will be illuminated by unique light installations that bring together art, innovation and inspiration for all visitors. The meeting of old and new, of historic city locations and contemporary technology, creates a special and distinctive atmosphere. Over time, the festival has also become a valuable platform for numerous artists – both Croatian and international – while its programme remains open and accessible to all, as all festival attractions are completely free of charge for every visitor. I therefore invite all our fellow citizens and guests of the city to enjoy this unique festival experience together, free of charge.

New this year: digital tools for easier planning

To further enhance the visitor experience and adapt to today’s audience habits, the FOL (Festival of Lights) app has been launched this year. Available on Google Play and the Apple Store, the app allows visitors to plan their route more easily, explore locations and access detailed information about the installations.

As every year, the Zagreb Tourist Board is running both online and offline campaigns across 15 markets, while this year the festival is receiving special promotion at underground stations in London and Milan.
