Burnout has become part of everyday working life. Recent research shows that as many as 78 percent of employees in Croatia have experienced burnout symptoms, while figures in other countries are equally concerning. Despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence, pressure on productivity continues to grow, and mental strain has still not eased. In this context, it is becoming increasingly clear why longevity, healthy ageing and resilience have become part of serious business discussions.

At the Future Tense powered by Lürssen conference, taking place in Zagreb on 22 April, Dr Susanna Søberg, a Danish scientist and one of the leading experts on longevity, will be among the speakers. For years, Søberg has studied how biological mechanisms, particularly nervous system regulation and thermoregulation, affect our energy, resilience and work capacity.

Prevention is the key to longevity. Healthcare professionals usually see only the end results such as hypertension, insulin resistance and depression. These are symptoms of prolonged stress; leaders can act in the opposite direction by building environments that protect sleep, recovery and metabolic health“, says Søberg.

Her message resonates strongly in a business environment where leaders are often expected to be constantly available and consistently effective.

As the creator of the Thermalist method, based on exposure to alternating cold and heat stimuli, Søberg addresses a growing challenge in modern leadership: how to maintain high performance in environments shaped by chronic stress and cognitive overload. She explains that longevity in a business context is not about lifespan, but about sustaining performance without burnout through better metabolic and autonomic health.

Alongside Dr Susanna Søberg, the conference will also feature futurist Rik Vera, global cybersecurity expert Mikko Hyppönen, while Märtha Rehnberg will speak about sustainable practices and the transformation of traditional industries.

Alongside Lürssen, other partners of this year’s conference include Erste&Steiermärkische Bank, Nestlé, Kaufland, Končar and Visa.

Future Tense powered by Lürssen brings together leading business executives and representatives of the academic and scientific communities. Through cooperation with the Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS), IEDC Bled School of Management, the Association for the Promotion of Smart Industries and the European Forum, it encourages the development of a new generation of leaders prepared for future challenges.
